A systemic microchemical analysis of unstained and uncoated neurone cultures was performed with synchrotron radiation photoemission spectromicroscopy after exposure to an aluminium solution. Clear evidence was found for localized aluminium uptake in a few cells. Their possible identification based on morphology is discussed.
