The product of the At1g07960 gene (AtPDIL5-1) from A. thaliana is classified as a protein disulfide isomerase-like (PDIL) enzyme, thanks to the presence of a thioredoxin fold domain and a CXXC motif. It is predicted to be located in the endomembrane system, due to the presence of a putative N-terminal signal sequence and a C-terminal unusual ER retention signal (DKEL), and to be involved in cell redox homeostasis. The annotation is based on in silico analysis and no experimental evidences about its catalytic function or subcellular localization in plants are yet available. Here we present a preliminary characterization of the expression profile and the subcellular localization of AtPDIL5-1, together with the phenotypic analysis of a knock out mutant.
