We give a broad audience introduction to possible applications of statistical physics and complex networks to electric power grids and market. We first revise the structure of the Electric System and the impacts of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and we then present the analysis of two case studies at the local and the national level:1 - We present an analysis of the impact of RES on Micro-grids taking as a case study the Cambridge community. 2 - We model the impact of RES on the Electric Market taking as a case study the Italian power network and market.
