An overview is provided on transgenesis, cisgenesis, alternative and innovative methods of genetic modification to obtain Novel Plant Products, as well as non-GM methods based on mutagenesis. Finally, the various assessment regulations around the world are discussed, and the need for harmonization among different states. Novel Plant Products, in many cases, could go through a simplified authorization process due to the assimilation to traditional breeding and mutagenesis techniques.
