CITIUS: the Italo-Slovenian Initiative for Ultrafast Spectroscopy CITIUS: the Italo-Slovenian Initiative for Ultrafast Spectroscopy: CITIUS, Centro Interregionale di TecnologIe Ultraveloci per la Spettroscopia" is an italo-slovenian initiative to establish a laboratory for ultrafast spectroscopy and femtochemistry experiments at the Laboratory of Quantum Optics of Nova Gorica University [1]. The project has been funded within the FP7 Interreg Funding Program. Applications in different domains related to photophysics and photochemistry are envisaged: pharmacology, clean energies, photocatalysis, The CITIUS VUV light source is based on laser HHG in rare gases and it has recently been assembled and characterized at Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste [2]. When moved to the University of Nova Gorica, it will pursue a scientific program in the field of atomic, molecular and cluster physics and femtochemistry, in close collaboration with the Low Density Matter beamline of the FERMI@Elettra Free electron Laser project. The current status of activity and the characterization of the source by means of laser assisted photoemission experiments on rare gases will be summarized.
