The lanthanum (III) complex [La(H2LA)(Cl)(3)] has been prepared by reaction of the preformed ligand H2LA with LaCl3. 7H(2)O or by template procedure. H2LA is the asymmetric [1 + 1] compartmental macrocycle containing an N3O2 Schiff base and an O2O4 crown-like site derived by the condensation of 3,3'-(3,6-dioxaoctane-1,8-diyldioxy)bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde) and 1,5-diamino-3-azamethylpentane. The X-ray structure of [La(H2LA)(Cl)(3)] shows that the lanthanum ion fills the O2O4 site and is nine coordinated with a tricapped trigonal prismatic environment; the coordination sphere about the central metal ion is completed by three chlorine atoms. Abstract
