In 2014, several freediving sightings of specimens of the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta occurred in the Mar Piccolo of Taranto. In particular, four individuals were observed, seeming recognisable by the features of their carapace. They were adults, which swam all around the basin. Since this species is listed as endangered and protected under the directive "Habitat" 92/43/EEC, their recent sighting in the Mar Piccolo, a basin subject to anthropogenic pressure, is of particular interest.

Abstract
In 2014, several freediving sightings of specimens of the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta occurred in the Mar Piccolo of Taranto. In particular, four individuals were observed, seeming recognisable by the features of their carapace. They were adults, which swam all around the basin. Since this species is listed as endangered and protected under the directive "Habitat" 92/43/EEC, their recent sighting in the Mar Piccolo, a basin subject to anthropogenic pressure, is of particular interest.File in questo prodotto:
