A special device has been made and used to study the effect of pressure on the kinetic behavior of a commercial phenolic resin by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Accurate and reproducible spectra were generated, the characteristic i.r. peaks assigned, and the reaction kinetics evaluated by monitoring the rates of peak disappearance. The pressure had the effect to increase both reaction rate and maximum conversion value.
