A new model (named SCIDDICA-SS2), which is based on the Macroscopic Cellular Automata computational paradigm, has been specifically designed for the simula- tion of coastal and underwater landslides. SCIDDICA-SS2 is a fully 3D model based on the equivalent fluid approach. It accounts for the most important mechanism controlling the propagation of an underwater landslide as well as peculiar mechanisms like erosion of the seabed, hydroplaning and air to water impact (in the case of coastal landslides).
