In this chapter, the authors illustrate the applicability of membrane and membrane reactor technologies in the viewpoint of gaseous streams purification from COx. Both inorganic and polymeric membranes are described in applications useful for COx treatment. In particular, a deep discussion on inorganic membrane reactor technology applied to COx purification via water gas shift reaction of hydrogen rich-gas streams for PEM fuel cells supplying is given, highlighting the advantages and the drawbacks of membrane reactors technology over the conventional processes. Furthermore, the chapter focuses also on polymeric membrane operations for COx purification, particularly indicated for CO2 capture. Interesting indications are given also about the performance of different classes of polymeric and inorganic materials, useful for COx separation.
