The Italian Long Term Ecological Research Network (LTER-Italy) is a net of terrestrial, freshwater, transitional and marine waters sites, on which research on ecological issues is conducted since decades. Some researchers belonging to the network have recently conducted a project that has directly involved citizens in the sampling and observation works. This work illustrates the experiences carried out, analyzes the results and draws some lessons for the inclusion of the Citizen Science in the long-term ecological research.
