The main purpose of the mission that took place in September 2014 was the beginning of the study and the archaeological excavation of Ighram Aousser fortress (dating back to the Almoravid period XI-XII century AD) in the mine of Aouam-Tighza, where had been documented traces of ore processing from prehistoric times to Islamic period. The archaeological campaign was held as part of the collaboration agreement between the ISMA-CNR, La Commune rural El Hammam, La Compagnie Minière de Touissit and the Association de Développement Rural ABGHOR, and after the institutional agreement for five-year collaboration with Moroccan INSAP, that attended to the phases of the excavation in North-East of the citadel within the city walls. The Italian mission was composed of researchers from the National Research Council, the University Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples, Sapienza University of Rome and the Université de Neuchâtel.
