This is a report on the first excavations in the mining site of the fortified city of Aouam. Its visible structures probably date back to the Almoravid period and it can be found in many historical sources including the text of Leo Africanus, who describes its beauty even after four centuries of abandon. The excavation was carried out in the northeastern part of the citadel, close to the point of intersection between the fortified wall and the perimeter one of the citadel. The results obtained in short surveys were surprising and announced great results for the upcoming years.
