The problem has been simulated using the ? - SP H model and an in depth analysis of the 3D wave pattern has been done. Abstract

An analysis of the 3D wave pattern generated by a ship in stationary forward motion has been performed with a specific focus on the bow breaking wave. Indeed, in this process, an overturning wave evolves with intense splash-up cycles that may modify the flow field. The problem has been simulated using the ? - SP H model and an in depth analysis of the 3D wave pattern has been done. For this purpose a 3D parallel SPH solver has been designed and preliminary tests on the flow around simple wedge geometries have been performed. Finally, a simulation of the global wave pattern around a vessel has been conducted. Since the numerical effort to simulate 3D flows is considerable, a hybrid MPI-OpenMP code has been developed in order to be able to carry on intensive computation.
