In this technical report the results of the turning circle simulations carried out by means of the CNR-INSEAN general purpose CFD solver ?Navis are presented. The turning qualities of the cross and X-rudder configurations are investigated both in deep water and close to the free surface at the reference speed Fn = 0.21. Numerical results are presented for two grid refinement levels and the results of the cross-rudder configurations are further validated with respect to free running model tests performed at QinetiQ (Submotion I project) and numerical simulations obtained by simplified mathematical models by Cetena and Marintek.

Abstract
In this technical report the results of the turning circle simulations carried out by means of the CNR-INSEAN general purpose CFD solver ?Navis are presented. The turning qualities of the cross and X-rudder configurations are investigated both in deep water and close to the free surface at the reference speed Fn = 0.21. Numerical results are presented for two grid refinement levels and the results of the cross-rudder configurations are further validated with respect to free running model tests performed at QinetiQ (Submotion I project) and numerical simulations obtained by simplified mathematical models by Cetena and Marintek.File in questo prodotto:
