Effects of quality of data and their sources in the strategic noise mapping process

Data requirement and data supply have paramount importance in noise mapping process and in the evaluation of outcomes. The Strategic Noise Maps (SNMs) are connected with the quality and accuracy of data which enter into modelling process. Thus, the success of this modelling will affect the Action Plans based on SNMs and cost of mitigation actions. In this study, the data and their sources are analyzed respectively taking into account geographical, topographical and meteorological data, building information, population distribution. Furthermore, comparison charts have been established for choosing the data sources. Using open source is particularly important in cost reduction, but the data obtained from free sources have medium or low resolution. These charts could help the creation of strategic noise maps providing for optimization in terms of data supply, sensibility, cost and significance. This study try to be a guideline for choosing source type for Turkey and the other countries which has same data structures.
