The "Snow grain photo library" is a joint research project between CNR-IIA and Arabba Avalanche Centre (ARPA Veneto). The project aims at supporting the identification of different snow grains and crystals sampled at different layers of snow cover. At present the library contains photos taken during field survey in the Svalbard Island (Norway) and in the Alps (Dolomite) with commercial cameras . The pictures present the snow grains and crystals as they appear on the crystal card when collected by a snow technician from snow cover layers; photos are arranged following the international classification of seasonal snow on the ground (2009). To simulate the use of a magnifying glass zoomed images are available for each different snow types . The Snow grain photo library will be open to contribution from the scientific and technical community. The Library is accessible at http://tlr.iia.cnr.it/sgpl.html
