L'arte della vita: biotecnologie e bioetica

La bioart est une expérience artistique qui se rapport à l'art, à la science et à la biotechnologie, avec l'examen d'un nouveau point de vue sur les concepts de la vie, de l'évolution, et de la nature. L'idée révolutionnaire à la base de cette expérience est l'utilisation de la matière organique vivante comme un moyen d'expression, ou medium, traitée avec des techniques rendues possibles par les dernières développements scientifiques et technologiques. La bioart vise à amener l'opinion publique à les problèmes générés par les activités qui façonnent la relation entre l'homme et la biotechnologie, pour explorer les craintes que ces activités suscitent dans la société. L'article décrit des oeuvres sélectionnées d'artistes internationaux, avec l'intention de fournir une analyse bioéthique de les implications culturelles d'un phénomène qui montre de nombreuses contradictions.

Bioart is an artistic experience that relates art, science and biotechnology by examining the concepts of life, evolution and nature from a new point of view. The revolutionary idea at the basis of this experience is the use of living organic matter as an expressive medium, handled with techniques which are made possible by the latest scientific and technological breakthroughs. Bioart aims at allowing a broader public the understanding and discussion of the problems related to activities that shape the relationship between man and biotechnology, in order to explore the concerns that those activities arise. The article describes some selected works produced by international bioartists, with the intent to provide an analysis of bioethical and cultural implications of a phenomenon that shows many contradictions.
