The chemistry and the biological activities of polyphenols with particular attention of polyphenols in food have been presented in a 45min- seminar. In the second part of the seminar, the preparation of C2 symmetry conformationally flexible biphenyl derivatives having hydroxylated functionalities has been presented. These biphenyls have become increasingly important for their presence in many structures of bioactive natural products. Several collections of hydroxylated biphenyls effective as antiproliferative and apoptotic agents in malignan melanoma, as sustainable antioxidants and, in agriculture, as fungicides, insecticides and mycotoxin inhibitors have been presented.
