A summary of recent experiments on filamentary transport is presented: L-mode density shoulder formation is explained as the result of a transition between sheath limited and inertial filamentary regime. Divertor collisionality is found to be the parameter triggering the transition. A clear reduction of the ion temperature takes place in the far SOL after the transition. This mechanism seems to be generally applicable to inter-ELM H-mode plasmas, although some refinement is still required.

Abstract
A summary of recent experiments on filamentary transport is presented: L-mode density shoulder formation is explained as the result of a transition between sheath limited and inertial filamentary regime. Divertor collisionality is found to be the parameter triggering the transition. A clear reduction of the ion temperature takes place in the far SOL after the transition. This mechanism seems to be generally applicable to inter-ELM H-mode plasmas, although some refinement is still required.File in questo prodotto:
