In this study we investigate the optical, magnetic and magneto-optical properties of hybrid colloidal core Au@Fe-oxide shell nanoparticles and Au-Fe oxide heterodimers. In both types of morphologies different strength of the chemical (interface) and dipolar (electromagnetic) interactions are present. The magnetic-plasmonic nanostructures were synthesized using colloidal methods in which each moiety has different size. This research was supported by Cariplo Project 2010-0612, FP7 European project NANOMAGMA (NMP3 FP7-214107-2) and by FIRB Futuro in Ricerca 2010 Project "NanoPlasMag" ( RBFR10OA10).
