The distributed hydrogen production from different biomass-derived fuels (bioethanol, biobutanol, glycerol, and biomethane) by conventional steam reforming (SR) process was investigated. An overview of the main feedstocks and the current technologies employed for the biofuels generation, purification, and upgrading is provided. The SR process is analyzed from theoretical and practical point of view. The role of the catalysts and the process conditions in determining the biofuel conversion and the hydrogen yield are elucidated for the considered biofuels.

Abstract

The distributed hydrogen production from different biomass-derived fuels (bioethanol, biobutanol, glycerol, and biomethane) by conventional steam reforming (SR) process was investigated. An overview of the main feedstocks and the current technologies employed for the biofuels generation, purification, and upgrading is provided. The SR process is analyzed from theoretical and practical point of view. The role of the catalysts and the process conditions in determining the biofuel conversion and the hydrogen yield are elucidated for the considered biofuels.
