Reuse of former industrial areas has a specific value in seaside cities where the port is a primary element of urban history but, at the same time, it was the place abandoned by productive activities. Seaside cities born and growth around the port - it induces their morphology and maritime identity. Port is integrant part of historical city and docks were the place of trade affairs and human relationships. City and port had coincided, by functional and identity point of view, until second half of 20th century when the evolution of maritime transport caused the specialization and separation of port from city. Delocalization of port functions, in whole or in part, was the next step. Historic urban areas and architectures of great quality were abandoned and decayed. Abandoned port areas have a strong historic-identity value and ask for a specific approach both to analyze them and to plan their regeneration. Case study: Genova, Napoli, Trieste.
Il tema delle aree dismesse assume una specifica valenza nelle città di mare dove il porto è elemento primario della storia urbana e, allo stesso tempo, luogo della dismissione produttiva. Le città di mare nascono e si sviluppano attorno al porto che ne induce la morfologia e l'identità marittima. Il porto è parte integrante della città storica, le banchine erano il luogo degli scambi commerciali e delle relazioni umane. Città e porto coincidono, sul piano funzionale e identitario, fino alla seconda metà del '900 quando l'evoluzione del trasporto marittimo causa la specializzazione e la separazione del porto dalla città. Il passaggio successivo è la delocalizzazione, in tutto o in parte, delle funzioni portuali, abbandonando al degrado ambiti urbani storici e architetture di grande qualità. Le aree portuali dismesse hanno un forte valore storico-identitario e richiedono uno specifico approccio sia nella fase conoscitiva sia nella proposizione progettuale.
