Abstract

Research and recent studies have highlighted how Nora cannot be understood as being a real colonial foundation. In Phoenician times it must be seen as a settlement that was poorly oriented to the exploitation of the surrounding territorial resources and instead characterised by a strong predisposition for overseas trade. The following contribution, based on the published ceramic evidence recovered thanks to the systematic excavations of the inhabited site and to the territorial and underwater surveys, intends to outline an updated picture of the cultural and commercial relationships which were started from Nora with different regions of the central-west Mediterranean between the second half of the 8th and the 6th centuries BC. In order to increase our knowledge of the network of contacts developed at Nora this study integrates a review of the already known material with some material evidence recovered from the most recently excavated areas
