Abstract

This paper describes a practice for live social reuse of Microdata annotations and Linked Open Data in the realm of events. Schema.org is a joint effort of Bing Google, Yaho and Yandex to produce a microdata vocabulary in order to enable the publication of structured and semantically enhanced data on the Web. The Semantic Web stack, in particular Linked (Open) Data (LOD) power rich data semantification, integration and reuse, making data interoperable and machine understandable. The events of the Palermo Capitale della Cultura 2018 cultural initialtive have been semantically enhanced interlinking the available open data with Linked Data (namely DBpedia and Geonames) and by means of that, inferring new information. The result dataset - stored in an RDF graph within a triplestore, has been serialized in a JSON-LD graph using Sche-ma.org Microdata and read by a telegram bot implemented to as an event search assistant for tourists. This effort shows how plain metadata can be powered by Linked Data and semantic vocabularies like Schema.org, to became rich-machine understandable data used by automatic bots to provide improved ques-tion answering experiences for the social user.
