Abstract

Today, digital photography has made a broader approach to the photogrammetric discipline possible by providing both the scientific community and users who may be unskilled, medium-low cost software that can produce three-dimensional digital models of more or less complex objects, extracting metric information from the photography and simplifying the procedures for acquiring and returning data. In this articlc the ultra close range photogrammetric technique, based on the principles of classical photogrammetry, is applied experimentally for the digitization of a fibula of medieval origin found during archaeological excavations conducted by the University of Siena in the Montieri area. In this paper we discuss benefits and problems of the application of the techniques for the study of small objects.
