The use of polymeric membranes for CO2 separations is a current case of study for scientific and industrial community. Different polymeric materials, classified as glassy and rubbery, have been used in the preparation of membranes for selective CO2 separation. As a critical factor that influences the performances of polymeric membranes for gas separation, a clear overview of the procedures used to prepare polymeric membranes is described. This chapter provides an overview concerning principles of phenomena of mass transfer through polymers, applications of polyimides membranes, and an overview of "popular" polyimides and the one of the most referred polyimides, the Matrimid 5218, aiming the separation of CO2 from other gases. Abstract

An overview of recent relevant works on the field of CO2 separation is a part of this chapter.
