Cultural Heritage Maps from Siracusa to Cetinje

This article describes a multimedia interactive map loaded in a single HTML page using AJAX, with a client side control mechanism utilizing jQuery components both freely available and ad-hoc developed. The application allows the user to select a Point of Interest (PoI) also through its multimedia contents, depicted using their list or their previews (in a gallery or in a tile window). PoIs--visualized on the map with multi-shape markers using a set of unambiguous colors--could be filtered through their categories and types, accessibility status and time line, thus improving the system usability. The interface, initially developed for the municipality of Siracusa in the 'Smart Cities' project coordinated by the Smart Services Cooperation Lab, has been improved for the municipality of Cetinje.
