The paper performs an analysis of the relations existing between firms and research institutes inside CNR, the National Research Council of Italy. It does so exploiting a qualitative methodology involving interviews to researchers and exponents of firms involved in selected cooperation having strong innovative relevance. The interviews did entail the description of the specific case, as well as the modalities and an evaluation of the collaboration. Material on other specific topics was also collected. At the end of the paper the results are organized in a SWOT matrix, presented together with conclusions and show the most relevant characters of the collaboration.
