The subject of our investigation concerns a literary and cultural appreciation of one particular aspect of the wide tradition of vernacular translations in thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Tuscany, namely the literary sub-genre of the translator's prologues. Our general purpose is to assess a number of recurring conventions of the genre as well as translators' individual peculiarities. Focusing on classical texts translations and profiting from the database provided by the DiVo project, we will lay out a classification of the relevant case studies, with the double aim of showing the range of typology variations from simple replication of the accessus model to more complex and ideological declarations of intent, and evaluating in greater detail translators' personal background, attitudes and ideology.

Abstract
The subject of our investigation concerns a literary and cultural appreciation of one particular aspect of the wide tradition of vernacular translations in thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Tuscany, namely the literary sub-genre of the translator's prologues. Our general purpose is to assess a number of recurring conventions of the genre as well as translators' individual peculiarities. Focusing on classical texts translations and profiting from the database provided by the DiVo project, we will lay out a classification of the relevant case studies, with the double aim of showing the range of typology variations from simple replication of the accessus model to more complex and ideological declarations of intent, and evaluating in greater detail translators' personal background, attitudes and ideology.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
