This article aims at collecting biographic information about Gherardo di Tura Pugliesi, who during the last decade of the 14th and the early part of the 15th century transcribed and signed a number of MSS. containing vernacular translations of Latin texts (BNCF, II.I.26; BML, Pl. LXI.5; Oxford, Bodleian Library, Can. It. 267). To these can be added a MS. (BNCF, Conv. Soppr. E.I.377), unsigned but ascribable to Gherardo through paleographic analysis, and a description, contained in the cod. Ricc. 2197, of another MS. (since lost) signed by him. Using all this information, a cultural connection between Gherardo - given his background in the Florentine Major guilds and his interests in the vernacular - and the circle of Coluccio Salutati can be demonstrated.
