The kinetic response of the edge plasma to a magnetic perturbation (MP) is studied in the RFX-mod device, both in RFP and tokamak discharges. It is shown that the helicity of the edge magnetic topology and also of the kinetic properties of the plasma edge is quite different from the one of the dominant MP. When a mostly monochromatic MP is present, the connection length to the wall of the magnetic field has a complex poloidal structure, with a rich poloidal spectrum, and both the floating potential and the electron pressure measured in the plasma edge reflect this behaviour.
