Making public buildings smarter and more energy efficient requires tailored solutions to overcome the main barriers in the implementation of suitable technology options in a large variety of building types. The PrioritEE project aims to strengthen the policy-making and strategic planning competences of local and regional public authorities in the energy management of Municipal Public Buildings (MPB). This paper focuses on the PrioritEE toolbox and, in particular, on the Decision Support Tool (DST) for assessing the cost-effectiveness of a predefined set of Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) measures and prioritize investments in terms of three main indicators: costs, energy savings and avoided CO2 emissions. Some preliminary results obtained by the application of the DST in three pilots show the main advantages for a municipality to use this tool and the wider applicability both within and outside the Mediterranean area.
