Abstract
A gravity dam with a cross section having the shape of a rectangular trapezoid is subjected to its own weight and70 hydrostatic pressure. The consequent elastic field, assumed to be pIane strain, is studied by determining the minimum value of the angular opening of the dam above which the principal stresses are negative on the side under hydrostatic pressure and non positive on the other. The conjecture that, under this condition, any tensile stresses present in the interior of the dam are negligible is partially verified analytically and numericallyFile in questo prodotto:
