DBMSs offer the most cost effective means to manage centralized data. However, a deeper analysis of CAD applications shows a number of specific requirements to be met by DBMSs in order to provide an effective support for such applications. In this paper we survey some of the requirements posed by CAD applications and we describe existing and/or proposed solutions, if any, to satisfy such requirements. The issues that we discuss are the following: complex objects, representation objects, multimedia object, versions and alternatives, long transactions, integration with design tools.

Abstract
DBMSs offer the most cost effective means to manage centralized data. However, a deeper analysis of CAD applications shows a number of specific requirements to be met by DBMSs in order to provide an effective support for such applications. In this paper we survey some of the requirements posed by CAD applications and we describe existing and/or proposed solutions, if any, to satisfy such requirements. The issues that we discuss are the following: complex objects, representation objects, multimedia object, versions and alternatives, long transactions, integration with design tools.File in questo prodotto:
