During the excavations to build the Metro C Line in Rome, the archaeological remains of a porch dated to 40-50 AD were found. Long more then 63 mt and 9.30 meters large, the porch overlooked a sloping garden close to a stream. The building was probably part of a house on the Lateran hill. The foundations of the walls showed the wooden formwork composed of horizontal planks, propped up by poles, to which sometimes vertical planks were superimposed. The archaeobotanical analysis, carried out by the CNR Ivalsa, confirmed the dating of the oak planks, coming from forests of the upper Rhine valley.
