This paper deals with Born reconstruction algorithm used in diffractive tomography; particular reference is made to microwave tomography. As well known, the validity of such reconstruction method relies on the assumption that a sufficient matching exists between the body to be explored and the surrounding medium. The aim of this work is to achieve a more accurate insight about the influence of the above said matching conditions on the performances of the method itself. By means of a computer simulation the limits of Born algorithm were quantitatively determined both in the case that only a qualitative map of the electromagnetic properties is of interest and in the case that an accurate measure of such properties is required.
