The article focuses on the difficult genesis of Clarian nunnery of Saint Lucia, in the district of Castello in Cagliari, in the years between 1532 and 1547. The foundation of the nunnery is framed in changes in Cagliari society in the late fifteenth century and the early decades of the sixteenth century. It is also framed in the new religious climate due to the spread of the reformer movement of the Observance, supported by the Spanish monarchy. The article pays particular attention to the various stages of the foundation, commissioned by the privileged classes of the city but hampered by the archbishop, and examines the long dispute that opposed, for a few years, the prelate to the Poor Clares.
