The distribution of soft bottom Peracarida (Cumacea, Tanaidacea and Isopoda) in the gulf of Salerno (Tyrrhenian sea) appears to be fundamentally controlled by the granulometric gradient. The data analysis, carried out by means of ordination techniques, revealed that three groups of species can be recognized, corresponding to coastal sand, muddy bottom and mixed bottom, respectively. Our observations are consistent with the general view according to which grain size and sorting degree are of major importance in determinig the distribution of soft bottom organisms.

Abstract
The distribution of soft bottom Peracarida (Cumacea, Tanaidacea and Isopoda) in the gulf of Salerno (Tyrrhenian sea) appears to be fundamentally controlled by the granulometric gradient. The data analysis, carried out by means of ordination techniques, revealed that three groups of species can be recognized, corresponding to coastal sand, muddy bottom and mixed bottom, respectively. Our observations are consistent with the general view according to which grain size and sorting degree are of major importance in determinig the distribution of soft bottom organisms.File in questo prodotto:
