Concern has been raised about possible adverse effects to human health due to exposures to Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF), that have been classified by IARC1 as possibly carcinogenic to humans, based on evidence that is weak and far from conclusive. Updated systematic reviews of the scientific literature on this topic are lacking, especially for mechanistic studies. Here we present a protocol for a systematic review of studies dealing with in vitro exposures to RF-EMF and assessment of genotoxicity that is one of the key biological indicators of carcinogenicity.

Abstract

Concern has been raised about possible adverse effects to human health due to exposures to Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF), that have been classified by IARC1 as possibly carcinogenic to humans, based on evidence that is weak and far from conclusive. Updated systematic reviews of the scientific literature on this topic are lacking, especially for mechanistic studies. Here we present a protocol for a systematic review of studies dealing with in vitro exposures to RF-EMF and assessment of genotoxicity that is one of the key biological indicators of carcinogenicity.
