The excavation of the Villa di San Pancrazio in Taormina. Preliminary report on the activities of the 2015/2017 campaigns · Since July 2015, the University of Messina has been carrying out extensive archaeological research in the park of the Albergo Villa San Pancrazio, at the northern edge of the modern town of Taormina. Villa San Pancrazio was already known for the presence of a large peristyle domus of the Middle Imperial age, partially brought to light in the 80s and 90s of the last century. In this paper, the activities carried out in 2015, 2016 and 2017 are preliminarily presented : firstly, the excavation of the domus already explored was continued, furthermore, research has been extended to the whole surrounding area, in which structures related to two other domus and the first traces of the ancient road system have emerged. A large residential quarter begins to take shape with great evidence, whose life unfolds through different phases between the Hellenistic age and the Late Imperial age, but also with later periods of occupation, up to the Middle Ages.
