During the past decade, both the figure and work of Eugenio Garin (1909-2004) were subjected to significant investigations, largely promoted by the celebration of the centenary of his birth. Beyond various specific aspects, on the basis of Garin's autobiographical statements, the overall unity of his academic activity, originating from his "passionate" intellectual experiences under fascist rule, should be underscored: the contact with the Florentine University School, educating to intellectual freedom and custodian of a solid tradition of critical and philological studies, his encounters with Professors Ludovico Limentani, Francesco De Sarlo and Giorgio Pasquali, the love-hate relationships with Benedetto Croce and Giovanni Gentile. The study of Giovanni Pico della Mirandola marks the beginning of Garin's original historiographical thought, where philosophy meets with philology at a convergence point, and it is built on his extraordinary ability to blow life into classics, making him into one of the most distinguished interpreters of Italian Renaissance. The much needed publication of his rich correspondence (more than 27,000 letters by Italian and foreign scholars) will help to better define the profile of an intellectual who was deeply committed to his times, a master of historical rigour as well as a firm believer in the primacy of reason.

Abstract
The much needed publication of his rich correspondence (more than 27,000 letters by Italian and foreign scholars) will help to better define the profile of an intellectual who was deeply committed to his times, a master of historical rigour as well as a firm believer in the primacy of reason.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
