In this chapter, the relevance of the different classes of nanocomposites will be pronounced. After a brief description of classifications and characterization for different types of nanocomposite materials, the potential applications of such novel classes of materials will be also highlighted. The second part of this chapter will focus on nanofabrication technologies and surface treatments currently used to design nanostructured materials for energy, environmental, and biomedical applications.
