Segmental lining is the typical support system of mechanized excavation and the particularities of this technology make its behaviour a three dimensional structural problem, very dependent on joints properties. The paper presents a 3D numerical model to interpret the strains measured in the lining segments of an instrumented ring of Naples Metro Line 6. The numerical model simulates the overall process of excavation and construction of the tunnel. The calculated concrete deformations are compared with measurements.
