The aim of this paper is to highlight the internal migration in Italy of foreign-born residents, using persons born in Tunisia as a case study. Through a gravity model, we identify the determinants of Italian interregional movement. In particular, employment rates, labor productivity and the stock of immigrant communities seem to play an important role. Furthermore, we focus on the Tunisian community of Mazara del Vallo (one of the most important and old Tunisian communities in Italy) to understand the role of individual variables in the internal migration movement. Through a Probit model and the integration of two different statistical sources, we define different migration paths.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to highlight the internal migration in Italy of foreign-born residents, using persons born in Tunisia as a case study. Through a gravity model, we identify the determinants of Italian interregional movement. In particular, employment rates, labor productivity and the stock of immigrant communities seem to play an important role. Furthermore, we focus on the Tunisian community of Mazara del Vallo (one of the most important and old Tunisian communities in Italy) to understand the role of individual variables in the internal migration movement. Through a Probit model and the integration of two different statistical sources, we define different migration paths.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
