A vehicle adapted and modified for disabled driver is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) only when is a "Wheelchair accessible vehicle" and requires to be type approved. The EC Directive 2007/46/EC (Regulation (EU) 2018/858) defines the European Framework for the type approval of motor vehicles. The presentation investigates how the Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) certificates for passengers vehicles, which have been adapted for disable driver, are issued by each National Type Approval Authority. TAA should certificate that all adaptations fitted/carried out on the individual vehicle are in accordance with the requirements of the IVA scheme. In general, only licensed adaptation companies may apply for IVA certificates. The aim of this presentation is to provide procedures and technical requirements to be followed under this scheme.
