This research has as objective the analysis of the different Llibres d'Ordinacions of different royal cities of the Crown of Aragon, between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries(1). These documentary collections that regulate the municipality's life, will expand in the major part of the Crown's territories, following the example of Barcelona, with as objective to preserve and maintain public order in the city. This kind of documentation, therefore, along with other municipal documentation attached to them, are the provisions of royal power through the municipality, and become an excellent material for the study of different aspects of city life during the period concerned. Furthermore, they are very useful for the study of coexistence and strategies for peacekeeping between Christian, Muslim communities and other ethnic minorities. In this paper we will give particular attention to the Sardinian ordinacions, especially those of Cagliari.
