The Essence project evaluated the costs and benefits of security standard based on two case studies. Power system controls are vulnerable to cyber-attacks so pressure to ensure cyber-security of control and communication systems is now strong worldwide. There are several cyber-security frameworks, but the costs and benefits of their adoption are not clear, so this hampers their generalized adoption. The essence results represent the only available experience in this field.
