This paper describes a multiprocessor-based system, with parallel and real-time processing capabilities, that can be used far image acquisition and processing. The system configuration can be modified via software according to the specific application by modifying the man-machine interface and using the resources requested by the current process. Some application examples are given referring to particular system configurations as workstations for image acquisition and pattern analysis.
