Abstract
The Chang'e-4 (CE4) mission is performing the first ground penetratingradar (GPR) measurements on the far side of the Moonto study the subsurface structure and geological evolution ofthe Von Kármán crater. In their Article, Zhang et al. interpret aseries of reflectors in the low-frequency radar data in terms of acomplex stratigraphy formed by different ejecta deposits comingfrom nearby craters. Here we show that these reflectors are insteadartefacts generated by the system design and antenna configuration. This problem could also affect future data collected by theCE4 low-frequency system as well as by other missions that use asimilar radar design, such as the one onboard the rover of theMartian Tianwen-1 mission.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
